Digna Biotech is a spin-off of the Centre for Applied Medical Research (CIMA) of the University of Navarra in Pamplona, jointly owned by the Foundation for Applied Medical Research (Fundación para la Investigación Médica Aplicada, FIMA), and a consortium of private investors. Among the latter are some of the mayor corporations of Spain, incluiding major institutions of Navarra such as University of Navarra, Caja Navarra, Caja Rural de Navarra, and the Government of Navarra through its investment arm SODENA.
Digna Biotech organizes with CIMA, CIFA, different Faculties of Unviersity of Navarra (Specially Pharmacy and its Galenic Department), and the University Hospital of Navarra, the main works to get to the successful exploitation of the research results.
From its conception, the company possesses an extensive series of products and technologies which have been licensed by the FIMA and which, in essence, comprise three categories: therapeutic products, diagnostic products and biomedical research applications. Each category demands very distinct delivery dates, investments and marketing strategies for the development of products – hence the need for technological vigilance and viability studies in each category, to ensure due structuring and priority definition of the corresponding development plans, as proposed in this requested project.
The model of Digna Biotech is a pioneering initiative in Spain, though it is very similar to other models developed in different North American universities.
